Alle soglie dell’anno Duemila, il mondo
vive un momento estremamente critico. V'è chi sostiene che la Quarta guerra mondiale è già scoppiata, con la fine
della Guerra fredda fra Est ed Ovest: è quella del Nord del mondo, sempre più ricco ed
opulento, contro il Sud del mondo, sempre più povero ed incapace di uscire dal sottosviluppo. Ma anche nei
paesi che si definiscono ricchi (od opulenti) ricompaiono problemi gravi di sopravvivenza:
la disoccupazione cronica che fa riaffiorare la paura di una spaventosa crisi economica.
La velocità con cui si diffondono
le informazioni e le conoscenze nel Villaggio globale, rendono sempre più difficile
nascondere (e, quindi, far convivere) le differenze tra Nord e Sud del Mondo. Ed è sempre
meno accettabile il perdurare di queste diseguaglianze tra le nazioni su scala mondiale.
Ecco alcuni dati del
conflitto. Oggi i Paesi in via di sviluppo (Pvs), che rappresentano il 75% della
popolazione mondiale, gestiscono il 12% del prodotto mondiale lordo, il 15% del consumo
mondiale di energia, il 6% delle spese per la sanità, il 7% dell'industria, l'11% della
spesa mondiale per l'istruzione. Inoltre sono oppressi da un debito
internazionale di milletrecento miliardi di dollari, e da un processo di spoliazione delle
risorse e materie prime che impedisce ogni decollo dello sviluppo. Così, apparentemente,
il Nord sta vincendo la sua ingiusta guerra. Invece, a perdere siamo tutti. Infatti, per
fronteggiare un'economia disastrosa e senza via d'uscita, i Pvs disboscano le ultime
foreste ed ospitano industrie a basso costo fortemente inquinanti. Questi danni, sommati a
quelli causati dal "super-sviluppo" della parte ricca dell'umanità, stanno
compromettendo in modo irrimediabile l'equilibrio dell'intera biosfera. Fermare la guerra
del Nord contro il Sud non è solo un atto di giustizia, ma anche una questione di
sopravvivenza comune.

gross world-wide product, 15% of the world-wide consumption of energy, 6% of expenses for
the health, 7% of the industry, 11% of the world-wide expense for the instruction.
Moreover they are overwhelmed from an international debit of milletrecento billions of
dollars, and from a process of despoliation of the resources and raw materials that every
takeoff of the development prevents. Therefore, apparently, the North is gaining its
unjust war.
Instead, to lose we are all. In fact, in order to face a disastrous economy and without
via of escape, the disboscano Pvs the last forests and accommodate strongly polluting
industries to low cost. These damages, added to those caused from the
"super-development " of the rich part of the humanity, are compromising in
irrimediabile way the equilibrium of the entire biosfera. To stop the war of the North
against the South is not only a justice action, but also one issue of common survival.
